The Case of the Missing Markers

It was a dark and dreary day. Our heroine, Susie, was knitting away at a pair of Queen Kahuna toe-up socks. Two on two circular needles! Double the fun in half the time.

Susie got to the part where markers are required for the increased gusset stitches. She knits and knits. And knits and knits. Then she gets up to do something (let a dog out, get a drink, answer the phone--who knows...something required she leave the knitting on the couch). When she returns, her stitch markers (tiny little o-rings from the hardware store!) are missing.

Susie spends an incredible amount of time looking through couch cushions. Looking under the couch where the dust hippos live (Susie spends entirely too much time doing anything but cleaning, so her dust animals are HUGE! not mere cuddly bunnies!).

Finally, she convinces herself that she must have dropped them and they must have rolled way far under the couch. In case there are dust alligators, she decides to stop looking for the o-rings.

Luckily, the place where the markers belong is easily spotted. So she replaces them and recommences knitting. However, she is called away from the couch, once again, to perform some of her house-wifely duties other than knitting.

Alas, when she returns, the markers are ONCE AGAIN MISSING!!! She spies her youngest son, Prince Aaron, sitting at the other end of the couch staring blindly at the television (a TiVo-ed episode of Rockford Files was keeping him entranced) and the puppy Roxy in the middle of the couch...and realizes that she hasn't lost her mind!

The puppy is eating her markers! Seven of them, to be exact. Mostly o-rings, but a few tiny rubberbands are in the mix.

Susie learns she cannot leave the knitting lying on the couch. She also learns the next day that the zip lock baggie full of markers--o-rings, rubber bands, oh my!--is not safe in the paws of Miss Roxy...because she dips her head inside and pulls things out to fling in the air all about!

Susie is quite grateful that she is not losing her mind, but is getting tired of watching Miss Roxy, Princess Pomewawa poop to make sure things are getting stuck inside.

Moral of the story...watch the markers...you never know how much in demand they are!
